Health And Safety
When you go on a trip you pack and make a checklist of all the things you need to take. Just to make sure you don't forget anything. You think you're ready and everything is on track, but have you thought about the health and safety of your family...

When you go on a trip you meet new people and want to stay in touch with them. It's not as hard to do with today's technology. You can stay in touch with all the new friends you or your family make. It could be someone that lives in the area, in another region of the country, or maybe even across the globe.
How can you stay in touch? Well there is always mail. You can write and send letters, but the mail doesn't always get there in a timely manner and with all we have available today it's not as common anymore. However, it is still a thrill to open and read a nice long letter; a feeling which email just doesn't convey.
Most will use email to talk back and forth over states and across countries. It's easy and you don't have to leave your home, as long as you have a computer and the internet, and even that isn't a necessity, as many libraries and internet cafes offer email access. With email you don't have to wait for them to get it a week or more later - the transfer of email is instant, and the message will appear next time your friends check their email.
You can also keep in touch with instant messenger online. You will need a computer and internet for this as well. The difference with this is you are 'talking' with them at that given moment. You can type your message and send it and they will get it instantly, and can reply with a similar speed. Many instant messaging programmes offer voice chatting capabilities, allowing you to use a headset microphone to talk to your contacts.
If you don't want to use a messaging programme, but still want to converse over the internet (which will be much cheaper, as most internet providers now offer flat-rate service), you can use the new VoIP technologies such as Skype, which is similar to using a normal phone through a PC. VoIP calls require a broadband or cable internet connection.
Obviously, you can also use a standard phone, though bear in mind how much it could cost if you are making peak time or long distance calls, particularly if you or your contact is using a mobile phone. You may feel that VoIP, as mentioned above, is a more convenient and cost effective way to keep in touch.
It really is easy to keep in touch with those you meet on your trip and be able to get the latest news on your favourite spots. You will be ready when you make that return trip to see your new and long distant friends.
